He looked awfully good in Arizona.

I blew it.

If he's named as #5 to start the season in AAA with one start and then come up in mid-late April, he's going to cost more than $9 in leagues in which he can be bought in the auction.

I'm working on Big Prices for the Guide. Today I have Forrest Whitley with a price of $9. What do you think?

My partner and I have already exchanged numerous emails on our potential keepers and our toppers.  Our toppers are mainly good players who had not-so-good years, so there may be value there . . . we can only hope.

My sentiments exactly: "Life is too short to have an offseason." I'm already reeling from the realization that there are only between 12 and 21 games left in the real baseball season.

I wasn't going to finish last, so I should have said "with only five freezes..."

The fifth-place team gets first pick in the reserve draft. The sixth gets the second and so forth. It's not a snake: this is the order for all seven rounds.

I finished eighth. Thus seven freezes and the fourth pick in the reserve draft.

But I won't get that pick because the guy I traded for in a fire sale, Eloy Jimenez, will count as one of the freezes and slots in as my first pick.

If I still had Whitley, I could count him as a freeze and he'd be my second-round pick.

Or he might be my third pick. Bo Bichette survived the various purges and stayed on my seven-player reserve list all season long.

Will he be a better play next year (next year only; our contracts are two years, over and out)?

Who the heck knows?

Something to think about all winter, which is the reason we have all these mystifying rules. The ADL doesn't remotely resemble a dynasty league but life's too short to have an offseason.

Can you explain your league's keeper pyramid (my word)?

My dilemma was this. With only four freezes, I couldn't possibly freeze Whitley next year. To gain more freezes, I had to go up in the wins column. To do that, I needed ten starting pitchers active each week, with another three to slot in at the end of the week for the three who were bombed at the beginning. It worked. I squeaked into the Mediocre Middle whose reward it is to have seven freezes.

But I'm not sure I have seven freezes. I know I don't have Whitley.

He'll be taken when my turn comes in the reserve draft. I'm too far down in the middle.

I think he will be up toward the end of April.  He may even be penciled in as the 5th starter, but they probably won't need a 5th starter until after Super-Two Day.  Recently that has occurred around April 17.  I could see him in the rotation the third week of April provided he's healthy.  I expect Vlad Jr. and Eloy will be promoted the first day the teams are guaranteed a free year out of them.

I think you will, Alex....especially with Morton and Keuchel heading into free agency and McCullers ability to stay healthy. I just hope Whitley is still in Arizona when we get there at the end of the month.
