Bedard looked pretty solid tonight. The second inning was a debacle due to the defense behind him, and he actually deserved a better fate tonight. The pitch count killed him, and that 31 pitch second inning with the two errors was the culprit. His velocity ranged from 91 MPH to 70 MPH and he had the A's hitters off balance.
Bedard has the best ERA for any SP since April 24th. He might keep this gig after Cobb coming back.

It's only one start...against Oakland. The A's bats have to cool down, right? I will probably not watch the game.

I have him on my reserves, but not sure I have the stones to activate him this week.

Baseball HQ doesn't disagree. In its newsletter today:
Rays | Erik Bedard to compete for spot in rotation
Tampa Bay Rays SP Erik Bedard will compete for the final spot in the rotation or a role in the bullpen, according to general manager Andrew Friedman. Source: Tampa Bay Times - Marc Topkin
BHQ take: Bedard arrives in TAM to provide Jake Odorizzi with some competition for the fifth starter slot. Bedard continued to maintain a strong (8.2) Dom in 2013, but the walks crept up (4.5 Ctl) to the point that he may do more harm to your WHIP than he helps in strikeouts. Unless he can return to a sub 3.0 Ctl (which he last attained in 2007), he is more likely to be used in middle relief. -Matt Dodge
