Whoever put Clase first on his/her ballot is probably getting a lot of heat right now. But not from me. Look at the Rating. Look at the G/L/F and HR. In a Start-O draft this winter, you'd have to have him high on your list. The save would be as automatic as it gets.
Until the sticky stuff was banned, Karinchak was even better.

Not sure why the Monkey hasn't changed it yet. Not only has Karinchak been hit hard in his last several outings, he clearly was rattled two nights ago when he hit Jose Abreu in the helmet with a fastball that got away.
Cleveland Indians – James Karinchak started the 8th inning with Cleveland up four runs, but quickly ran into trouble as he allowed a two-run homer and then a single while only recording one out. Emmanuel Clase came on and although he allowed that inherited runner to score, he did not allow any other runs to score en route to a five-out save. Karinchak has allowed five earned runs while only recording one out in his last two outings and has also allowed at least one earned run in four of his last seven appearances. Meanwhile, Clase has strung together six straight scoreless appearances and could be on his way to moving back to the top of this committee.
Hierarchy remains: *Karinchak | Clase | Shaw.

Emmanuel Clase, RHP, Indians — Clase’s ERA remains a perfect 0.00 as he threw one scoreless inning on Sunday. Clase topped out at 102 mph on Sunday. His 84 100+ mph pitches is already far and away the most by an Indians pitcher in the Statcast era. The rest of Cleveland’s pitching staff has 14 100+ mph pitches since 2008.

Highest average pitch velocity Indians RHP Emmanuel Clase, 100.1 mph -- The hardest-throwing pitcher in baseball isn't deGrom or Aroldis Chapman. It's the recently graduated Cleveland prospect who might throw the most insane pitch in the sport. Clase has averaged 100.1 mph on his cutter, making him the only Major Leaguer to average triple-digits through the first two weeks of the season. Again, that's a cutter, not a straight four-seamer. Despite missing the entire 2020 season after testing positive for a banned performance-enhancing drug, Clase has moved into the back of the Cleveland bullpen with ease, recording two saves over his five appearances. With heat like this, those save opportunities will keep coming.

Did you chase Clase yesterday? If so, how far? What did Karinchak cost?
April 12, 2021
Cleveland Indians – Emmanuel Clase picked up his second save in three days on Sunday. James Karinchak (0.00 ERA through four outings) has also pitched well in the early going, but one more save for Clase and we’ll likely remove his asterisk.
Hierarchy remains: *Clase | Karinchak | Wittgren.

If you are drafting this weekend and Plan A was to chase Clase, you are sorry to see this.
Emmanuel Clase worked the ninth — breaking 100 mph on most of his 14 pitches — for his first save with Cleveland and the second of his career. He got one with Texas in 2019.

In Cleveland. Is back for 2021. Was out for 2020, suspended for 80 games on May 1, 2020 after testing positive for Boldenone, a banned PED.

Don Drooker, grading his pick and pans in last year's Guide:
> Emmanuel Clase, PICK – At age 22, he’s the Closer of the future in Texas
…but will it be in 2020? Didn’t pitch in ’20…no Grade
