I'm working on Big Prices for the Guide. Today I have Eloy Jimenez with a price of $13. What do you think?

One of the comments in the Twitter storm created by Bill James.

Bill James is being disingenuous by always pointing to "view of marketplace" as the end-all, be-all conclusion to quash any opposing argument. He neglects to mention how younger players are almost always severely underpaid and exploited to give an unfairly huge advantage and benefits to the owners given how rules are structured (i.e. # of years service before becoming a FA, the international free agency pool, etc.). If true free market exists, and you allow free market force to operate, players as a whole will, and should be entitled to earn more. It's now almost impossible to disguise Bill James and many of the Ivy League management type's plantation mentality and uses the arguments of analytics to attain that, while neglecting the problem of the system as a whole in the first place.

Eloy's 2018 stats now on display.

In addition to everything else, he doesn't strike out.

He won't forget this.  And he shouldn't.

Didn't play in Charlotte's final game of the season, after going 0-for-4 with two strikeoust the day before.

I think he might be a little discouraged.

And, if and when Eloy leaves the ChiSox for a bucket of cash in free agency down the road, someone (many someones) will accuse him of lack of loyalty.

And what exactly is not to like in the self-penned article? Even if it's agent-penned?

He grew up poor in the DR. He stayed out of trouble. His first love was basketball. And now his goal is the HOF.

I'm rooting for you, Eloy. I just hope that after next year I can't afford you.

Good question, Alex, and one that I don't think anyone other than the Chicago front office can answer. What baffles me, is that the White Sox had to know the reaction to their decision to not bring up Jimenez in September. All they had to do to avoid this hue and outcry was bring him up for a couple of weeks and tack it on next Spring. Maybe they're sending Eloy a message, especially in light of his self-penned Article from last week where he proclaimed he was ready? https://www.theplayerstribune.com/en-us/articles/eloy-jimenez-white-sox-chicago-im-ready

That's exactly the rule that I was trying to describe, apparently without success.

Here's a question: How come Vlad is playing in the Arizona Fall League and Eloy's not?

The rule in the American Dreams League is a little different than Alex thinks. But it still benefits him if he never activates Eloy. Jimenez's price next year is $10 if he is in the majors regardless of whether Alex activates him or not. But if Alex doesn't activate him and he starts next year in the minors (which seems to be the White Sox plan), Alex can take him as his first reserve pick. Which means free talent for a guy who will spend 130 games in the majors.
