hahahaaaa serious about winning? come on.

Stratton has been awful. Bednar should get all the save opps if they're serious about winning. The only reason not to is fewer saves means less $$$ in arbitration.

Trea Turner did lace a pretty nice line drive to right for the last out ... but fortunately the Dodgers hadn't overshifted their OF and Suwinski was well positioned to reach up and grab it before it turned into a double ...with Freeman on deck.
At the plate and in the field ... pretty nice game for the rookie.

No problem (VanMeter page). Bednar completely dominated the last two innings.
If you read this in the next hour, you will see how quickly he disposed of the Dodgers in the ninth.

Pittsburgh Pirates — Pittsburgh held a 2-1 lead Thursday and went with David Bednar in the eighth and Chris Statton in the ninth. Bednar retired the side on 10 pitches for his fourth hold but Stratton was not nearly as effective, yielding four hits and two runs to cough up the lead and blow the save. Bednar (0.00 ERA) is the better pitcher here, but the pair will likely continue to share save chances, unless Stratton (5.40 ERA) starts to scuffle a bit more.
Hierarchy remains: *Bednar | Stratton | Hembree.
*= closer-by-committee

Rotowire's depth chart for the Pirates:
Most recent comment for Bednar:
Bednar landed the shelf with a strained right oblique Sept. 14, and he'll rejoin the active roster after a brief stint on the IL. The 26-year-old should take over as Pittsburgh's top closer, though Chris Stratton likely will still be in the mix for those opportunities depending on the situation.
