Finalists for the NL Gold Glove Award:

FIRST BASE
Christian Walker, D-backs
Paul Goldschmidt, Cardinals
Anthony Rizzo, Cubs

Goldschmidt (three Gold Glove Awards) and

I'm sure in many leagues this was a REALLY BIG play.

Yesterday's Biggest Play

Batter: Christian Walker (ARI)

Pitcher: David Bednar (SDP)

Situation: Bottom 7th, 2 out, 1-1 count, Bases Loaded

Score:  SDP 5, ARI 2

Home Run (Fly Ball to Deep LF-CF)
4 runs scored on the play, and ARI's win probability increased 57% points, to 75%
ARI went on to win the game, 6-5

A single and two dingers in the desert last night, driving in five. Not that long ago it looked like the pitchers had figured him out; now he's slashed .320/.358/.660 in his last 15 games.

Top of the second in DC... Walker just put the fifth ball of the game into the cheap seats.

Eck is talking about the bad location of the pitches. The "constant effort to hit the ball in the air." Marte, who's batting now, "made himself that kind of hitter... extension, higher finish, more loft... I call this the post-modern hitter."

All true. Occasionally, Eck mutters something about the baseball.

He can't help himself. The word has come down: do NOT talk about it.

But there's still a little bit of the rebellious spirit in Eck and he mutters.

What's the over/under on the number of homers that will be hit today? Nine? Ten?

These 5 players have opened eyes in April ...

Walker, Stephenson, Fried, Polanco, Goodrum

Walker, a first baseman, has always been stuck. Drafted by Baltimore in 2012, he was blocked by Chris Davis, back when Davis was still a star. From there, he went briefly to Atlanta (where he was never going to play ahead of Freddie Freeman), then Cincinnati (Joey Votto) and finally Arizona (Paul Goldschmidt). He went through all four teams in the span of about six weeks during Spring Training in 2017, then spent the majority of 2017-18 in Triple-A Reno, bashing 50 homers and popping up every so often to crush Clayton Kershaw.

I am twisted up like a pretzel from kicking myself for not bidding enough on him during our first FAAB run.

Fifth double and sixth homer yesterday.

One of his homers this spring must have been in a B game. And even without it he slugged .612.

The Three Amigos were no more impressed than Syd was.

OK, now he has 2 HR in 2 games. If you’re drafting an NL only this weekend throw him out early and watch the feeding frenzy.

Started at 1B for the D-Backs today and had a HR and a double. Went undrafted in my league but I bet there’ll be some serious FAAB action here come Sunday. A HR will do that.
