Two things to remember about tonight:

1) Harper's first home run was off of Staufer.

2) Over 200K fans were at the game and will "remember" being their for Bryce's first HR. :-)

HR #1 today!

Does it get an asterisk that it was off the Padres? (ie. same as Moyer's W)

Right now he has batting practice power and doubles are coming more based upon line drives and speed than HR power falling short.

While he has lived up to expectations, to me he has been an exciting player (being only 19 and all), not a great player.

In AAA in 72 ABs he was batting .250 with 1 HR and a .708 OPS. To me that hardly screams, call him up.

Not saying he doesn't belong in the majors, he just didn't prove himself at AAA this year. His AFL performance of course is a different story.

But as far as his first HR, I agree, it seems it should happen before June, unless he keeps getting hit with balls and bats at the plate.

What's the over/under date on his 1st MLB HR?

Some date in May? June?

I'm sure if some place in Vegas has this on the board that it's a May date ... prolly a near May date ... but he's still on the goose egg ... wonder why?

I guess that's probably the right way to look at it.

But even so, $63 would mean something like $28 next year then $35 in 2014. Not sure if I'd make that bet.

Let's say he costs $40 and earns $53. Nice, but nothing to go nuts over, in my mind. Especially when you factor in the "Man, he just looks lost up there at the dish, maybe he needs more AAA seasoning" possibility.

But then again, I trend towards old boring guys, so I'm likely biased.

In my home league, Harper was a 10c going into this year's auction/draft. The owner extended him out to 25w ... so he could get him for free this year, and has him 3 more at $25/yr.

Hmmm.

Actually that should have been:

2011 cost: First reserve pick.
2012 cost: Last reserve spot.

So it's a $40 total in 2013, 2014 for a projected $63.
