The White Sox cut him during ST in 2017, saving $3 million.  Their reasoning was they wanted to open opportunities for younger players.  The following two seasons Carlos Sanchez (25) manned 2B, while Todd Frazier (31) manned 3rd.  Sanchez did rack up 6 WAR in 2017/2018 for $2.8 million total, Frazier tallied 5 WAR over the same time for $20 mil.

Chisox had acquired Frazier that winter by dealing Micah Johnson, Frankie Montas and Trayce Thompson to the Dodgers in a 3-way deal with Cinci.  Not much lost there in retrospect, but I guess they could have gotten back Brandon Dixon, Jose Peraza and Scott Schebler instead (the players LA shipped to Cinci).  Ouch.

Don't know why Lawrie didn't end up with anyone last year - but he had already made about $10 mil from baseball counting his draft signing bonus.  Maybe with his foot injury he started just looking at a future away from baseball - and after awhile decided that he wasn't ready to enter that future just yet?

Signed a minor league contract with the Brewers.

Still only 29. Barely 29 at that.
