Cubs declined their $12 million option. Buyout costs them $3 million.

That is correct.

Still interesting to see if Kimbrel will back off of demands for a 5 year deal ... if he'll accept something in the 3 year range ... or if he'll just sign for the remainder of 2019 and look to repeat the process next winter.

I think that's right.

We are a month away from the draft, after which Boston doesn't get compensated for Kimbrel signing elsewhere, correct?

Transferred to the 60-day DL.

And, as far as anyone can tell, Kimbrel's agent still hasn't heard from the Cubs.

The Cubs shut him down after experience soreness in a bullpen session. Good news for Pedro Strop owners like myself, and probably more good news for Craig Kimbrel's agent as well.

Brandon Morrow (P) CHI-N - Jan. 29

Morrow (elbow) is expected to miss at least one month to begin the 2019 season, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.

ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After an injury riddled 2018 campaign, Morrow underwent arthroscopic elbow surgery back in November. While he hasn't experienced any setbacks in his recovery, the reliever is about a month behind his normal offseason throwing schedule -- he recently started throwing a tennis ball off a wall to get a feel for his throwing motion, and he's hoping to resume playing catch Feb. 6 after doing so Jan. 6 last offseason. An exact timetable for his return should clear up as he progresses in his recovery. Though Morrow figures to reclaim his role as the team's closer once healthy, it's unclear how the Cubs will approach the ninth inning in his absence.
