That's true of anyone on the Mets roster.

Claimed by the Mets. Won't be eligible for the postseason roster.

Will the relief pitching-starved Reds take a chance on Hand? He would be the only legit closer on the staff. This could be a gift that dropped from the sky.

DFA'ed by the Blue Jay's today.  Wow.  The kid Riley Adams the Nats got in return for him also looks like he may be a big-league regular at some point - maybe at least a solid backup to Ruiz?  What a pleasant surprise for Nats fans still reeling from the Trea Turner deal.

Nationals trade Brad Hand to Blue Jays

July 29, 2021

Washington Nationals — The Nationals dealt Brad Hand to the Blue Jays. With Daniel Hudson and Austin Voth on the COVID-IL, Kyle Finnegan and the just-activated Tanner Rainey will lead this bullpen.

Updated hierarchy: *Finnegan | Rainey | Suero.
* = closer-by-committee

Toronto Blue Jays – The Blue Jays have acquired Nationals closer Brad Hand, who should take over the ninth inning for his new club.

Updated hierarchy: Hand | Romano | Mayza.

Washington Nationals —  Brad Hand bounced back with a perfect 9th inning to record his 6th save of the season.  Daniel Hudson earned his 3rd win of the season with a scoreless 8th and now has a stellar 1.13 ERA and 0.69 WHIP for the season. The Nationals will hope that Hand can settle back in and start pitching like he did for the first month of the season, but considering how well Hudson is pitching, the situation is still worth monitoring.

Hierarchy remains: Hand  | Hudson | Harris.

Actually, Hand blew two saves yesterday,

Gave up a run in the bottom of the ninth to cost Scherzer the win.

Gave up a run in the bottom of the tenth to cost himself the win.

VULTURE SAVE WATCH

Alex - you said "pay" when it sounds like you mean "budget" ... ie. one only has to pay +1 above what someone else actually will pay (because they bid it) ... if you budget for $24 for Brad Hand, and you only have to pay $13, that's good ... as long as you can re-budget on the fly to make sure you not only spend the other $11, but get top value while spending it.  On the flip side ... as long as "no one else" includes "everyone else" in your auction, you're good to go ... but as soon as one other owner budgets $23 for Brad Hand, then you'll be paying $24 for him ... when maybe both of you were wrong (and other other 10 owners were right about what he will be worth in 2021).  As always, YMMV :-)

$12 in Tout.

Granted, this is 5x5. But aren't we taking "he was lucky" a little too far?

Nevertheless, I've trimmed a dollar off AP4. Every dollar counts at this point and if no one else will pay a closer what he's worth, I'm not going to.
