I guess health comes in to play in Miller's contract, but they are paying a 3 WAR player, when healthy only $4M/WAR. That's well below historical trend market value, especially for a relief pitcher.

With a MI combo of Murphy and Turner defensively and that GB rate....no surprise his BABIP for Washington in 2017 was that high.

I don't know - Andrew Miller at age 33 just got 2 years/25 million.
A completely different market from Harper/Machado. One doesn't affect the other in modern baseball economics.

Except for the first half of the season in Washington in 2017 he's been a great pitcher. Last year he was incredible. Glad he got an appropriate raise. Unfortunately he came up relatively late and he will be hitting the free agent market as an "old" player. Even the young MVP caliber players can't get good contracts. Guys like Treinen are going to be in trouble.

Won his arbitration case. $6.4 million. A's offered 5.6.

8th most valuable pitcher, both leagues, in 5x5.

First reliever on the list of highest earners. His sinker was was almost six mph faster than the average sinker (91.6). The exit velocity was more than one mph lower than the average (88.4).
I am writing this in November, before the Cy Young voting has been announced. He and Diaz would both be very high on my ballot, probably second and third behind Snell; in the cumulative wisdom of the baseball writers, neither is going to be in the top five.
What I can't decide is, which one is second?
