The Mob is pretty excited. So am I.

05.15: Padres acting manager Ryan Christiansen confirmed Sunday that BlakeSnell will make his season debut on Wednesday against the Phillies. (Christiansen noted that they'll roll with Mike Clevinger, Snell and Yu Darvish in the three games against the Phillies. He also added that Nick Martinez and MacKenzie Gore will likely work out of the bullpen for the time being. Snell made three starts on his minor league rehab assignment, compiling a 2.77 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 19/2 K/BB ratio over 13 innings of work.)

I plunked down $18 for him in Doubt NL.

How come? Why $4 more than my bid limit?

I just had a good feeling about Blake and all the pitchers who cost more seemed even more pricey. I pictured the pitcher who was lights-out in August and rolled the dice.

Scrolling down through the rosters of the 19 other teams in NL Doubt1, I find that one other team -- Foodie, owned by Kate McDannell -- acted on a similar impulse.

We have separated ourselves from a very large pack.

Not yet ruled out of next start
April 12, 2022
Snell (groin) is expected to play catch Tuesday and could still make his next scheduled start against Atlanta on April 15, though a trip to the injured list remains a possibility, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Snell was scratched from his start against Arizona on Sunday after experiencing tightness in his groin while warming up in the bullpen, but the left-hander later said that the injury is "way more minor" than the groin issue that caused him to miss his final few starts at the end of 2021. He's slated to test the groin by playing catch Tuesday, which could give clarity about whether he's headed for a trip to the injured list. Manager Bob Melvin hasn't ruled Snell out of making his next start, though he seems to be leaning toward playing it safe with the hurler. "I'm a little skeptical based on the fact that he had to be scratched...but I don't want to get ahead of myself....We're always going to be cautious, this early in the season," Melvin said Monday.

If by "us" you mean "not me", then I agree :-(  (#BURNED)

With a 3.24 ERA and 1.05 whip in the second half, Blake ends up with Statcast stats that are almost identical to the year before.

The big difference in the Statcast scan is HR/FB, which is a "results" stat (I think of Statcast stats as things that are measured by cameras and radar). The much lower HR/FB explains the substantially better FIP.

His actual ERA, of course, was substantially worse.

That explains why he only earns $9, even in 5x5.

He'll get big bucks again from us this year. He's Blake Snell.
