There are a couple of people who pay full price for closers in my 4x4,  but teams that do this and don't have a strong freeze list are typically at a disadvantage. And the winners frequently aren't the teams that pay $35 for Kimbrel and get $40 of value but the teams that pay $17-20 for Treinen

And yet the money's still real.  Our 4x4 has quit paying for marginal closers, while still paying full price on "locks" like Chapman and Kimbrel.  It's a bit like the Trout argument in that sometimes it's worth it to pay for security, inasmuch as that exists in roto.

The expert market was higher on Chapman than Peter and Mike (CBS $24, LABR $22, Tout $21).

My home league (one of those last bastions for 4x4) stopped paying full price for closers years ago.

While Peter's working on Big Prices for next year, I'm counting beans from last year. Which is to say I've finally updated the 2018 formulas. Up until now, we've been showing what players earned this year using the 2017 formulas.

The changes are slight. Measured against a somewhat lower league ERA and WHIP, and with an even greater abundance of strikeouts, Chapman's $4x4 drops from 31 to 29, his $5x5 from 19 to 18.

If you sort the Stats page by $4x4, both leagues, you'll see him ranked as the 19th best pitcher in 4x4 last year, just ahead of Iglesias. If you have the three sets of bids displayed, you'll see what Peter, Mike and I proposed as bid limits for Chapman last year.

In fact you see them here.

Peter and Mike proposed $18 for Chapman in 5x5.

I proposed $29 for Chapman in 4x4.

Brilliant!

I'm working on Big Prices for the Guide. Today I have Aroldis Chapman with a price of $19. What do you think?

While the Yankees are getting ready for the their shootout with the A's, countless fantasy leagues will be affected by who gets the saves in the next ten days.

The Yankees want to have the shootout in Yankee Stadium, so they won't be coasting.

New York Yankees — Aroldis Chapman is back from the disabled list, although he’ll be eased back into action over the next 10 days. If New York’s relievers are right, their playoff bullpen might be the best in baseball.

Updated hierarchy: Chapman | Betances | Robertson.

The White Sox TV guys were commenting on CC's pitch count in the early innings, but then noted, "You don't really want to get into *this* bullpen."

Ask Rotoman: Why didn't Chapman pitch in the 10th innings save situation last night?

NY POST: “Too much pitching the other night,’’ Chapman said on the way out of the clubhouse.

Boone said Chapman’s body was sore and didn’t point out a body part, but Chapman said, “It’s in the back.’’

Sounds like it isn't serious. What is serious is the sequence of relievers: Robertson in the 7th. Betances in the 8th. Holder in the 9th. Britton in the 10th for the Save, blown.

So, why didn't he come into the game last night? And when he didn't, why doesn't the Closer Monkey address this?
