Struck out the side in the 9th today to secure Cueto's 20th win and send the Pirates to the Wild Card game.

In a season that began with a horrific injury in ST, he ends up saving 36 games and striking out 106 batters of the 202 batters he faced.

Think about that....striking out 53% of the batters you face in a season???

We are watching something special with Chapman.

Here it is, history being made...

Colorado - Bottom of 9th SCORE 3-2
Aroldis Chapman pitching for Cincinnati CIN COL
A Chapman relieved J Cueto.
Wilin Rosario Strike (looking), Strike (swinging), W Rosario lined out to center
Charlie Culberson Ball, Ball, Ball, Strike (looking), Ball, C Culberson walked
M McKenry hit for D LeMahieu
Michael McKenry Ball, Strike (foul), Strike (looking), Ball, M McKenry lined into double play, to first, C Culberson doubled off first

Closer Monkey explains.

Cincinnati Reds – Aroldis Chapman picked up his 26th save of the season last night. However, it was a little bittersweet as Chapman failed to record a strikeout for the first time in almost a year. Chapman’s record 49 straight games with a strikeout as a reliever beat the previous record by ten games.

As we see, all three oust were on two line drives.

Shut down my Pirates again today, striking out the side on 12 pitches, hitting 102 MPH on the gun multiple times. He truly is amazing right now....13 hits allowed in 29 IP and averaging over 2 K's per inning? We will be talking about his dominance for a long time.

Price brings in Chapman today in a non-save situation in the bottom of the ninth to face McCutchen with two on and two outs in a 3-3 tie.

He strikes out Cutch, then Price brings Chapman back for the 10th and he proceeds to strike Sanchez, Harrison and Mercer. Struck out all 4 batters he faced with 20 pitches. The change-up was impressive again today.

Just nailed down his 11th save, striking out Segura, getting Braun to GO to short, and striking out Lucroy to end it. What is scary for the rest of the league is that Chapman seems to have developed and has confidence in a third pitch, his change up. He only threw his slider a few times tonight, and focused on the gas and the change. When you throw a 102 MPH fastball, then comeback with an 87 MPH change it's just plain nasty. Braun and Lucroy both looked silly against him tonight.

If Chapman can master that third pitch? Well it's just not fair.

Picked up save number 10 today. Gave up a walk to Kemp and a single but blew away Ethier, Rojas and Romak for 3 more K's. Hit 102 MPH on the gun several times in the inning.

29/4 K/BB ratio in 15 IP...he looks dominant again.
