I love the "you need to learn to pitch in adversity" thing.  What a load of crap.

I wrote this about a month ago. "Bryan expletive Price figures that the best way to assure confidence in a young pitcher is to let him get pounded for a 10 spot (9 earned)."  He is at it again allowing Garrett to give up a 7 spot in 5 innings.  What does he have against Garrett who is trying to learn his craft!

Also, while it may suck your life away, I recommend all roto players buy and play a few seasons of OOTP baseball.  Be the GM and the manager. Then just be the GM.  Then just the manager.

Try the different modes.

At the end, you'll understand more about transaction rules and meaning than you thought possible and you'll understand (because of 40 man roster management) why they can't bring up the stud rookie instead of the 32yo journey-man.

Reds are going to have to burn several options this year to keep a steady flow of players to support their young starters by bringing fresh arms to the pen.

Secondary blame goes to Cody Reed for killing the bullpen earlier in the week, but yes, I'm not real happy with Mr. Price.

Bryan expletive Price figures that the best way to assure confidence in a young pitcher is to let him get pounded for a 10 spot (9 earned).  There goes my ERA.

Why don't more pitchers throw both kinds of fastballs?

Newsmakers from Wednesday's action:

Amir Garrett, lhp, Reds.
The former college basketball player has begun his big league career in
fine fashion. Garrett, who pitched six scoreless innings in his debut,
followed that up on Wednesday with 6.2 strong innings, allowing just
five hits and two runs in a win over Pittsburgh. Cincinnati’s No. 3
prospect throws a four-seam and two-seam fastball that sits 90-95 and a
slider that flashes above-average.

Nice recovery...

Amir Garrett, lhp, Reds.
Cincinnati’s No. 3 prospect appeared ticketed for Triple-A before
spring started, but he might be forcing the Reds’ hands. Garrett’s
performance—along with Anthony DeSclafani’s ulnar collateral ligament
strain—has put the tall lefthander in a strong position to win a
rotation spot. On Monday, Garrett dominated the Athletics in four
perfect innings, striking out three. Just one batter—Adam
Rosales—reached base and that came on an error by Ryan Raburn. The
former basketball player relies on a fastball that sits 90-95 mph and
an above-average slider. With improved command, he could be a
mid-rotation starter.

Apparently Mike Trout had no trouble welcoming Amir to big-league hitters...

Amir Garrett was blasted for seven hits and five runs (all unearned) over 2 2/3 shaky innings Wednesday in the Reds'Cactus League loss to the Angels.

Here they are.

Double-A is especially buzz-worthy. At any level, a rating under one is outstanding. He very clearly is not easy to take deep.
