Last year I said I'd rather have Rios at $20 than Wells at $30. (That worked out well!)

But Rios isn't as young as he seems, and his numbers got out of whack after the Home Run Derby. Now I'm not sure I wouldn't rather have Wells 'cause I think he might go for a few bucks less.

He slipped a little in the second-half, particulary in the power department (only 7 HR) and he fell off the map in September (.234 BA, .369 SLG). Nevertheless, I'd agree with Eugene and Yoda that the bid has to be higher. Even if Rios doesn't make it to 30 HR, he's going to hit close to .300 with that sweet swing and the steals aren't going away. Even if he doesn't become an elite player, you don't want to let someone get him for $26 and turn a profit.

Boy, they don't make trades like that anymore! Have to go back a ways. Frank Robinson for Milt Pappas. Lou Brock for Ernie Broglio.

Guess Jays are lucky Dodgers turned them down.

Rios changed his name from Alexis to Alex, which should be noted. We don't have direct control over editing all fields of the database this year, and name is one of those fields.

DDF is right that there's nothing not to like about last year's numbers. I can't make a good argument that he won't build on them again, or that he won't. Something I see watching him play makes me less than enthusiastic is all. He's worth having but I'm not going overboard.

As far as trades go, I saw a note on Rotowire that the Blue Jays offered him for Tim Lincecum back in December. I'll let you judge how serious that is.

I don't know but he seems like a good bet to seriously breakout in 08. If he can turn some of those 2B into HRs, we are looking at an elite player.

When Rios first came up I saw a lot of comparisons to Derek Jeter, based upon his size and build. The past two years show that he's developing into quite a hitter. I agreed with fred that these prices are too low, especially on the 5x5 side of things. His age is perfect for a breakout and with all of those doubles, his homeruns could spike. As long as he keeps those steals in the mid-teens, he's a five category star, not far behind Sizemore and Upton, and somewhere near Markakis.

The overall ranking of Rios is befuddling. Age 26. No less than 74 extra base hits last season. An improving K/W ratio. What's not to like? And you'd take Mike Lowell over Rios? As Ricky said to Lucy, "You got some splain'n to do!"
