Signed with the Giants for $925,000, avoiding arbitration.

Actually, what I'm pretty sure he avoided was being non-tendered.

Hate the DL. Hate inter-league. Hate Tom Glavine. Hate the Yankees.

My four baseball hates.

I seem to be among the minority but I thoroughly enjoy interleague play.

The highlight of the game in Fenway last night was of course young Yaz's homer but fans got so much more from two teams with storied histories for whom the end of this season can't come soon enough.

Fifteen innings of back and forth baseball. Twenty-four different pitchers toeing the mound, tying a major-league record. Fifty players finding their way into the boxscore over 5 hours, 54 minutes.

Four lead changes in regulation time. Three scoreless extra innings. Giants score in the top of the 13th on a double off the Monster by Brandon Crawford, one-time World Series hero having a terrible year. Red Sox answer in their half with a two-out bases loaded walk by Juan Centeno, a catcher batting .167.

Dickerson finally unbalances the score for good with a sac fly two innings later.

Okay, maybe it was 15 innings of pure pain for fans of both teams.

For the World Champs, the season has been a huge disappointment. According to Pythagoras, the Red Sox should be 83-67, not 79-71 (and certainly not 36-40 in Fenway). So what? They'd still trail the Yankees by 16 games and have no chance at a wild card.

For the Giants, Pythagoras says the team has over-achieved: should be 67-84, not 73-78. But give the Giants credit for being tough in the close ones, like last night. 37-15 in one-run games, 13-2 in extra innings.

That's super-tough. Or super-lucky, depending on who you ask.

Anyway, I like to think I would have stayed to the end in Fenway. I'm pretty sure I would, because, as I say, I'm fascinated by interleague play. Isn't that the true measure of which league is better?

Everyone knows you can get super-lucky in the All Star Game. Even in the World Series.

When the game finally ended last night, the interleague score this year was NL 160, AL 127.

Pythagoras says that's about right: NL 1415 runs, AL 1271.

Growing up in New Jersey, rooting for the Brooklyn Dodgers, against the Yankees, I like that.

It's going to be entertaining to see the list of players who play in the OF for the Giants by the end of the season.

So far:
Tyler Austin      Brandon Belt      Steven Duggar      Mike Gerber
Connor Joe    Gerardo Parra    Kevin Pillar     Michael Reed
Yangervis Solarte    Steven Vogt    Mac Williamson    Mike Yastrzemski

Interestingly Aaron Altherr never got into the OF during his one week term with the Giants, only making an appearance as a pinch runner.

The Padres shipped recently designated outfielder Alex Dickerson to the Giants, in exchange for RHP Franklin Van Gurp.

He came off the IL and sent to AAA on June 2nd ... what was needed was his spot on the 40-man, so IL vs not-IL not the issue anyway (as Diaz was coming off 60-day IL back onto 40-man).

I thought Dickerson was also on the IL?  Why was the designation needed?

DFA'd by Padres to make room for Miguel Diaz coming off the 60-day IL ... he's doing well at AAA El Paso, but so are a lot of guys, I s'pose ...
