It's going to be entertaining to see the list of players who play in the OF for the Giants by the end of the season.

So far:
Tyler Austin      Brandon Belt      Steven Duggar      Mike Gerber
Connor Joe    Gerardo Parra    Kevin Pillar     Michael Reed
Yangervis Solarte    Steven Vogt    Mac Williamson    Mike Yastrzemski

Interestingly Aaron Altherr never got into the OF during his one week term with the Giants, only making an appearance as a pinch runner.

The Padres shipped recently designated outfielder Alex Dickerson to the Giants, in exchange for RHP Franklin Van Gurp.

He came off the IL and sent to AAA on June 2nd ... what was needed was his spot on the 40-man, so IL vs not-IL not the issue anyway (as Diaz was coming off 60-day IL back onto 40-man).

I thought Dickerson was also on the IL?  Why was the designation needed?

DFA'd by Padres to make room for Miguel Diaz coming off the 60-day IL ... he's doing well at AAA El Paso, but so are a lot of guys, I s'pose ...

Only two teams in the majors have had a higher percentage of right-handed AB than the Padres. Note to management: this guy bats left.

Hosmer getting his wakeup call will help there too - career-wise he's 160 OPS points better against righties.

Spot on, Tex.

What gives Dickerson an edge is being a left-handed hitter ... RHPs have been giving Padres more trouble so far this season ...

Pads have a crazy glut of OFs.

At the MLB level, besides Dickerson, there's Franmil Reyes (.845 OPS), Wil Myers (.736 OPS ... but he's owed 67 million over the next 3 years), and Hunter Renfro (.827 OPS), and the ever disappointing Manuel Margot (who is the CF, at least until Jankowski comes back).

On IR, besides Jankowski, are Pirela and Cordero.

Dickerson's AAA teammate, 21 year old Josh Naylor, has also been mashing - .930 OPS with more walks than strikeouts.  Or course, it is El Paso.  France was putting up a freaking 1.385 OPS before being called up, and he's batting .208 right now.

Down at AA, it might even be more interesting.  22 year old Jorge Ona is posting a .957 OPS, while 23 year old Edward Olivares is at .954.   Although Amarillo is roughly the same altitude as El Paso.

Olivares might be the most interesting of the minor league bunch - besides being a nice power speed combo, he's got the defensive skills to play CF at the major league level.  Margot could continue to scuffle ... and Jankowski could continue to be not much more than a guy who can run ... which could fast-track Olivares to the majors.

A huge overpay ($20, next bid $3) by the Original Oracles in the PCL. This Oracle's fault. I blame it on the Mob getting me all riled up.
