2 other factors at play here:

1. Bohm has played a lousy 3B.  His "defense" could be an issue going forward if he is to stick there, assuming Hoskins isn't going anywhere and a move to 1B is out of the question.  I think that is something the Phillies will look at next spring.  Maybe Bohm can play LF??

2. At least for the time being, Ronald Torreyes has done enough offensively to make it worth keeping his outstanding glove on the field.

But if Bohm is not going to play, might as well get him some AB's at AAA.

I think this is a good move ... if nothing else, it's a "shake up" ... it both makes it clear what the consequences of the status quo are ... and ... it takes some pressure off in the short-term ... let's see if he can get his head on straight long enough to sort out any/all physical issues ... without the MLB spotlight on him ...

Ginny Searle at The Athletic:

The Philadelphia Phillies option 3B Alec Bohm to Triple-A Lehigh Valley, activate 1B Rhys Hoskins.
Uh … why? It’s been an awful year for Bohm, of course. Following a strong debut, with an .881 OPS in his abbreviated first campaign, the 24-year-old has seen his OPS drop to .644, and his deserved metrics move with it. He’s got a big fat goose egg in WARP, and last year’s Rookie of the Year runner up is striking out in more than a quarter of plate appearances. The more evident problem is a ground ball rate in excess of 50 percent. It’s clear something needs to change, but with more than 600 big league plate appearances to his name it’s not clear what he can glean from the minors. Rather, it seems the Phillies are doing this as part of their ongoing, halfhearted playoff push. But … they’re 4.5 games back in the East, and five in the Wild Card. Wouldn’t it be better to assume that if a turnaround is in the offing, Bohm will be a part of it?

If you can get him for a modest cost, I would also buy.  He does not seem overmatched or lost at the plate, unlike say...Scott Kingery.  There's been some bad luck and some pitcher adjustments for sure.  The overall failures of the entire lineup don't help matters either.  But I think he'll figure it out.  I just wouldn't expect him to be a big power guy though, not with that swing.  He's more of a spray it around kind of hitter, though he's certainly young enough and big enough to change that approach.

.270/.335/.450 is the kind of hitter I think he can be.

Just 24 years old.  I absolutely would buy low here (and have).

No, the track record is pretty slim.

Would you take advantage of his slow start now?

Take advantage of his slow start if you're drafting this weekend.

And he's available, which is unlikely.

GROIN
March 27, 2021
Bohm (groin) isn't in the lineup for Saturday's spring game against the Tigers, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Bohm left Thursday's game with tightness in his groin area, and manager Joe Girardi will hold the 24-year-old out of Saturday's lineup to give him an extra day of rest. However, Bohm feels good and was able to hit and throw Friday. Girardi said that Bohm could return to the lineup for Sunday's Grapefruit League matchup against the Yankees.
