Gilliam really never hit for a high average but had some solid OBP seasons. Scored 100 runs in each of his first 4 seasons.

I remember Gilliam as a coach but not a player. I didn't realize how big a contributor he was to the Jackie Robinson era Dodgers.

Drew his 100th walk yesterday. The first rookie to do that since 1953 (Jim Gilliam).

There's something to be said for actually hitting the ball. Either he's very tired or they have truly found a hole in his swing.

0-for-5 this afternoon with three Ks. In his last 73 AB he's fanned 33 times. Post All-Star he's slashing .182/.343/.358.
And even with that, the tale of his tape compares very favorably with Stanton's.
Avg Exit Velocity 95.83
Avg Distance 234.11
Avg Gen Velocity 6.62
Stanton's:
Avg Exit Veocity 92.61
Avg Distance 214.17
Avg Gen Velocity 3.63

Has now struck out in a major league record 33 consecutive games.
Somewhere Adam Dunn is smiling.

A trade deadline Hobson's choice. With a 10 win lead and a crumbling offense, I set up two deals: Odor for Paxton and Judge for Keuchel.
And then I freaked out. I couldn't tell which one was better. Keuchel is $18 next year, Paxton is gone.
I seriously considered trading both, leaving me with Manaea, Peacock and Bauer, but I'm too far behind the top couple of teams for it to make a difference. One or the other gets me about as far as I can go.
I chose Judge mainly because the Keuchel injury risk and the sense that Paxton is in high gear right now and could be very much the better of the two even if Keuchel stays healthy.
I continue to worry about it long after anything can be done about it.

Guess who's now a Bad K?
Aaron Judge. For Keuchel.
A classic.
