I actually put the game on to watch Puk lock down the save for me.  *sigh*

Three? I wish.

When I checked the scores at 11, the A's led 3-0 in the 7th. When I checked again an hour later, they had lost 5-3. I said, Uh-oh.

Rotoworld:

09.10: A.J. Puk allowed three runs and was charged with a blown save and a loss against the White Sox on Friday.  (The A's had kept the White Sox off the board as they took a three-run lead into the ninth inning. Puk would implode as he allowed five runs on four hits and a walk, taking the blown save and the loss. The 27-year-old
left-hander carries a 3.20 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 65 strikeouts across 56 1/3 innings while going 4-for-9 in save chances.)

Rotoworld:

09.01: A.J. Puk was charged with a blown save despite not giving up a run in 1 1/3 innings Thursday against the Nationals. (Puk
entered with the tying run on second and two outs in the eighth, and he
allowed the runner to score on a single, resulting in the blown save.
He then remained in to pitch a scoreless ninth. He was in line for the
win when the A's scored twice in the top of the 10th, but the Nationals
came back with four runs off Norge Ruíz. The blown save was Puk's first
since July 2.)

Is such cynicism warranted?

Probably.

Rotoworld:

08.04: A.J. Puk got Shohei Ohtani to pop up the only pitch he threw to earn his third save Thursday against the Angels. (What
could have been a dramatic at-bat -- Ohtani up as the go-ahead run
after already having homered twice on the day -- was over in the blink
of an eye. Puk seems worthy of more save chances for the A's, but since
that would make him more expensive in arbitration -- and he's a bigger
part of the team's future than Dany Jiménez or Zach Jackson -- it seems
like the A's are trying to avoid using him in the ninth.)

07.27: A.J. Puk had a perfect ninth inning to notch a save Wednesday against the Astros. (With Lou Trivino and Zach Jackson both apparently unavailable having pitched
each of the previous two days, the A's turned to Puk to close out a
two-run victory. He was up to the challenge, needing only nine pitches
while recording a strikeout along the way. Puk could be in the mix for
saves if Trivino is dealt.)

07.23: A.J. Puk recorded the final out for the save against the Rangers on Friday.  (Lou Trivino had gotten the call in the ninth inning with a three-run lead.
After giving up two runs on three hits and a walk, Puk was summoned to
end the threat and record the final out. He got Marcus Semien ground out
to the end game, securing the win and locking down his first save. )

Monkey:

Oakland A’s – A.J. Puk entered last night’s game in the fifth inning with Oakland trailing, 5-4, and promptly gave up three runs thanks to a triple and a throwing error. He then stayed on to pitch a perfect sixth and seventh. Puk’s previous appearance was in the seventh, though that was to protect a 5-3 lead with Oakland in a jam against the heart of the Yankees’ lineup. Based on this usage, we’ll move Lou Trivino to the top of this committee for now.

Updated hierarchy: *Trivino | Puk | Jackson.
* = closer-by-committee

We Puk owners would be happier if it seemed the A's would ever win any ballgames.

Oakland A’s – The A’s placed Dany Jimenez on the IL yesterday with a shoulder injury, though an MRI showed no structural damage. Manager Mark Kotsay mentioned A.J. Puk and Zach Jackson as options to fill in for Jimenez.

Updated hierarchy: *Puk | Jackson | Acevedo.
* = closer-by-committee

Rotoworld:

05.12: A.J. Puk picked up his first win in three years by throwing two scoreless innings of relief against the Tigers on Thursday. (Left
alone in the pen this year, Puk has impressed in allowing just one run
in 15 innings. It's not what the A's were expecting from him when they
made him the sixth overall pick in the 2016 draft, but considering how
the previous two years went for him, they'll definitely take what they
can get.)

Me, too.
