Heath Bell Tampa Bay Rays
In our NL only 4x4 keeper league with moderate inflation last week (which generally spends in the 30's on established closers) Bell went for 18.

Doesn't look like much of a player but he made the team. Moves him up to an R3 in the software.

George Sherrill Atlanta Braves
Went for $20 yesterday in a 5x5 AL keeper league. Shandler has been high on him for at least two years, but i didn't chase him based mainly on what I had read here. Felt better to get Borowski at $18.

I love to watch guys like him - I just hate to pay for them. Does he bunt?

Travis Buck Houston Astros
Had one more OF spot to fill and I picked him up for $12 in a 5x5 AL keeper league. It might have had something to do w/ the fact that my sister-in-law taught him in junior high and says he was a nice kid. She has never been a good judge of baseball talent, but I figure the bid was worth it for someone who is 24 and should get all the ABs in RF for OAK.

Carlos Gomez New York Mets
Well, my 4x4 AL-only keeper league auction is Saturday, and his performance tonight will probably push him out of my price range.

His two SB's tonight were easy (albeit off Weaver and his slow delivery).

Owners will pay for a 35-40 SB season based on the speed he showed tonight.

Torii Hunter Minnesota Twins
I took him for $28 in a 5x5 AL keeper league. The move to LAA is neutral power wise, but bear in mind he went through shoulder and hamstring problems in the 2nd half last year. I don't see any reason for a decline.

Johnny Damon Cleveland Guardians
Went for (to me) $24 in a 5x5 AL keeper league. Speed is damned expensive and I can't see him scoring less than 100 runs again. Whatever problems NYY may have, scoring runs won't be among them.

Bobby Jenks Boston Red Sox
Went for $29 in a 5x5 AL keeper league - a buck higher than Rivera. God knows what Eckersley would have gone for.

Jed Lowrie Oakland Athletics
Sickles loves Lowrie. He ranks him much higher than BA, BP, or Keith Law in their top 100s. I decided to take him in my reserve draft ahead of other players who were higher ranked overall because he's closer to the bigs and I think Sickles is better than the other sources. We will see.

Carlos Gomez New York Mets
Went for $15 in an AL-only keeper league that's been around for 21 years. I went to $12 and settled for Travis Buck at $12 a few players later for my last OF.

Speaking of Rolen pessimism, I got him for $7 in one league and $3 in the other (one draft 3/29 the other 3/30). In those leagues Scutaro went for $4 and $3 respectively. I have Callaspo and Willy Aybar as replacements in the two lineups and prefer both to Scutaro.

We paid $5 for him in the American Dreams! Five!

The collective "we," I mean. I like Marco, and my partner Dollar loves Marco, but not at this price. When someone said $1, we said $2, and then our jaws dropped.

More a case of deep pessimism about Rolen, I'm pretty sure, than irrational exuberance about Marco Scutaro.

Kelly Shoppach Seattle Mariners
V-Mart's hammy injury today looks like it might put him on the DL.

If you grabbed Shoppach for a buck, this could be a very nice play if this injury hinders V-Mart in April and beyond.

You knew I would have to chime in after he smacked a HR off Guthrie today in the Rays' opener.

There's some gas left in the tank.

Frank Thomas Chicago White Sox
Clete Thomas sure looked happy today after his first major league hit. No cheap-o for him either; a clean, opposite-field double where he went the other way against a tough offering by Joakim Soria.

Eric Gagne Los Angeles Dodgers
Did NLers discount closers the way we did yesterday in the American Dreams (highest price paid, with inflation: $29 for Papebon)? If so, Gagne's not going to reach $10 next weekend. He looked horrible today.
