Moving from CBP to Minute Maid will not help his numbers. He is though, a predominately ground ball pitcher, based on his career ratio's, so that helps. His K/9 have dropped the past couple of years, but is still solid enough, as is his BB/9 ratios. I have a feeling he gets back to double digits if he stays healthy.

Joe Blanton Washington Nationals
He exceeded my expectations last year...has put up solid numbers at CBP. Best K/9 rates of his career last season. Could be an interesting play in 2010.

Ian Stewart Washington Nationals
Will be 25 to begin the season and still a ton of potential. The strikeout rate last year was 32.5%, which is not great, but hey, it was better than Mark Reynolds. His career BABIP is .310, and last year he was at .275...you can expect him hitting in the .250's this year with close to 30 long flies if he gets 450-500 AB's. Might even get you double digit steals.

Yes, I do have a man crush on Shields (which MikeG and Toz can attest to) but expect a bounce back season. I have watched almost every one of his starts the past 3 years, and I can tell you, last year he was unlucky. Bid confidently....expect another $20+ season. One of the best change-ups in the game.

Dan Wheeler Cleveland Guardians
I took him for $2 in 2008 and threw him back b/c we only get 5 keepers, although I was tempted. I got him for $2 again in '09 and he's going back again. I'd be very happy to grab him in the crapshoot for $2 again. His biggest weakness in 5x5 is the lack of Ks. But, I'd take him for $2 over a $20 Bobby Jenks, Brian Fuentes, or Kerry Wood any day of the week.

John Danks Chicago White Sox
With all the talent in the A.L., Danks might actually be a bargain this year in A.L.-only leagues. His peripherals slipped a little bit, but Danks still had a solid season and is still very, very young for a pitcher. He could have a Felix or Greinke-like breakout this year; I think it's more likely that he remains a $16-20 pitcher with a breakout coming later.

Dan Wheeler Cleveland Guardians
With Soriano in the fold and Howell still in the picture, Wheeler should finally sneak in for a cheaper price this year. His BABIP has seemed flukish for two years in a row now, but the flip side of that is that he's done the job for two years running. I don't have a good feeling about Wheeler, but the scan says otherwise.

Joe Saunders Baltimore Orioles
The market wasn't fooled, paying a tepid average salary of $8 for Saunders in 2009. He was the kind of pitcher who would slip a lot in the $ column if his peripherals slipped just a little bit, which is exactly what happened. He's solid enough as a major league pitcher, but 2008 looks like an incredibly fluky year that may never happen again.

Mike Adams Philadelphia Phillies
Inning for inning, even better than he was in '08. These are some pretty sick numbers for a mere 37 IP. Tip of the hat, Mr. Adams.

I'll take everything from this guy - who couldn't manage his money and called Tony Gwynn "selfish" - with a healthy helping of salt.

Tommy Hanson Los Angeles Angels
I probably didn't watch Hanson pitch as much as Slyke did, but in the games I saw he generally didn't leave too many pitches up in the zone.

Matt Kemp Colorado Rockies
Signed a two-year contract yesterday for $10.95, passing on arbitration this year as well as next year. A great deal for the Dodgers that will only get better. Dave Stewart, what were you thinking?

Steroids were just coming into vogue in the early '90s. Did he know about them? Did he turn them down? If he did, then he's free to rip.

Gotta love the honesty from Jack the Ripper:

"A lot of them should be banned from baseball, including Mark McGwire. All those guys are cheaters — A-Rod (Alex Rodriguez). Fake, phony. Rafael Palmeiro. Fake, a phony. (Roger) Clemens, (Barry) Bonds. (Sammy) Sosa. Fakes. Phonies. They don't deserve to be in the Hall of Fame.

They should all be in the Hall of Shame. They can afford to build it. They've all got so much money. And they could all go there and talk about the next way to rub something on your skin. The whole thing is creepy. They're all creeps. All these guys have been liars.

They're not really a man's man. They're just whimpering boys who are just sad to watch. They try to put it off on somebody else. I don't know how they sleep at night, looking at all their fame, let alone the money they took by faking everybody out and lying to everybody.

I don't know. I'd rather take my 340 home runs legitimately instead of taking that stuff to be phony."

Gee, Jack, how do you really feel?

Robinson Cano Atlanta Braves
Secondbase in the AL is a very strong position. Cano reached the elite level last year, but there are a lot of guys who are expected to go $25 or more. Pedroia, Kinsler, Roberts, Cano, Zobrist, and Aaron Hill. There's plenty of solid mid-level talent too. Jose Lopez, Howie Kendrick, Gordon Beckhman (depending on league qualification rules), Asdrubal Cabrera qualifies too. Mark Ellis isn't bad and neither is Mazier Izturis. Callaspo and Getz are okay, but I wouldn't bank on them.

I wouldn't get caught with Scott Sizemore as my starter at this position.

Felix Pie Baltimore Orioles
Based on my post last year, you know how I feel about Felix. It's funny, we have been talking about this guy's potential for 7 years, but his MLB line is .244/.305/.383 to date.

Pass.

Colby Lewis Texas Rangers
More than a little impressive. Big contrast with his K/W in majors, and they aren't free swingers in Japan, so something must have changed. Starting, maybe, at Sacramento in 2007?

Robinson Cano Atlanta Braves
Nice bounce back season...I was confident about bidding $25 on him last year and getting him, and will keep him this year at that price. I don't see any reason why he cannot duplicate a 2007 line, at worst.
