Gavin Floyd Toronto Blue Jays
7 1/3 IP of a no-no today broken up in the 8th by an Edgar Renteria single. The reviews from people watching the game were hardly kind, though: they said Floyd's command and control weren't very good, and that the Tigers were taking some bad swings early.

Saw him win his 30th. What an amazing waste of talent. Didn't know what an addictive personality was back then, but the papers reprted he drank about 12 Pepsis a day. I don't recall which year this happened, but his teeth were basically rotting away from all the sugar and he had to have most or all them pulled during the course of that summer. What would his '68 season be worth in a 5x5 league?

Betancourt was the Scott Shields of relievers who are not closers last year. I thought Betancourt had all the stuff a closer needs, but he has failed when used as a closer (as almost everyone else has in the CLE bullpen over the years). I know because I have owned nearly all of them. Where is Doug Jones when you need him? He will be much like he was last year is my bet ( I have him for $18)and will be another Todd Jones of the AL Central. Between them thay have about 160 saves in the last two years. They will put up with him until they carry him off the field on a stretcher.

Toz paid $19 in our money league.

Edwin Jackson Toronto Blue Jays
I should have had the courage of convictions in my money league and said $1. He went unauctioned and someone picked him up in the injury replacement phase of our auction (yes, very pre-FAAB old school).

Turtles, the SS in our league mostly went around inflation par: Jeter $34, Young $28 (me), Lugo $24 (me also), Renteria $21, Peralta $20 (ouch).

Second base was where it got a little crazy. I threw back Roberts at $29 and he shot up to $33. I got sucked into Asdrubal Cabrera at $19. My bad.

I overpaid at $13 (last catcher on the board and I was doing a wacky no pitching strategy), but I think he might work out with inflation.

DL, retroactive to April 10, effective April 3. Who wins the pool?

With Rich Harden on the DL, SURPRISE!, DiNardo goes into the rotation, and Devine gets brought up.

Jed Lowrie New York Mets
Lowrie was just called up to replace Mike Lowell on the roster. Tonight Youkilis is playing 3B and Casey 1B, but if Lowrie, who has always been a SS proves capable in workouts, he will be playing some 3B and the Sox may never look back if his offense is as good as anticipated. Once Lowell comes back Lowrie could wind up playing a lot of SS. As I mentioned below Sickels gave him an A- in his book, very high praise to be sure.

MikeG, It appears Jackson is proving me wrong. It's only 2 starts, but he's lights out.

Will CC's inj issues resurface? 241 IPs on top of all the others, especially with his big frame, adds up to a lot of wear and tear. Look at the A's big 3 (Zito, Mulder and Hudson)-- they were maniacs until they wore out the tire tread, then the wheels came off.

Matt Garza Milwaukee Brewers
That nerve injury looks very Huston Streetish (a la 2007). People in the know said it usually takes a long time to recover from nerve injury. On Street, they were right. Could be awhile before Garza comes back.

What Alex said about the punting saves thing happened in our league. I got KRod and Rivera for under par. Street and Nathan when for less than par as well. But people still want saves, they were just waiting on the B class closers. So Percival and Borowski went for prices just a little short of Street. The submarket for A class closers was short on demand, high on supply. B class was high on demand, short on supply. To boot, all of the CIW types went too, so people who were truly punting saves had no outs.

This same phenomenon CAN happen w/steals, although there are so many guys who have some level of steals vs closers (who have to have the job) that the effect might be less dramatic.

Brandon League Los Angeles Dodgers
If Accardo continues to stuggle and BJ Ryan hasn't recovered enough to close, who would be the next candidate? League or Frasor? Or someone else?
