Good stuff in the ESPN recap of Edwin Jackson's no-hitter against the Rays last night:

The performance by Jackson, who helped Tampa Bay make an improbable run to the World Series two years ago, overshadowed the first meeting between brothers B.J. and Justin Upton, who despite being relatively close in age had never competed with or against each other at any level before Friday.

The Uptons are one of nine sets of brothers who have played in the majors this season. About 65 relatives and friends are in town for the series, and mother, Yvonne, wore a jersey bearing the names and numbers of both above the notation: "my sons."

Hinch joked with Justin before the game that he was tempted to post a mock lineup that didn't include the right fielder.

"I said, 'would have you been in here'" to protest, "and he said: 'My mother would have been in here.'"

Alydar. Pulls away in the stretch.

It's a helluva strikeout duel, Upton versus Reynolds in the desert. Feels like Affirmed against Alydar; who do you like?

With 2 K's in his first 2 ABs today, Upton looks en route to his 3rd 3K performance in his last 5 games.

Time for some kind of an intervention?

He keeps piling up the counting stats, and he's not going to lose his job ... but that is an ugly contact rate.

Upton and Reynolds are currently 1-2 in the NL in strikeouts.

So while his OPS increased (.673 to .825) from April to May - that was largely a result of his BABIP jumping from .302 to .368. His K/AB stayed flat, and his K/W increased.

I'm thinking sell, if you can get someone to pay a premium for those SBs and HRs ... I could easily see his BA heading south again soon.

Scary thought: D'backs already are leading the majors in slugging (by 23 points), OPS and runs scored.

Upton's on pace for a 30-30 season with 120 runs. To find a panic seller, you need a crummier start. Trendy stars on the escalator don't get flushed down the toilet this quickly, not in the leagues I've seen. But every league context is different.

Upton's month by month OPS last year:
.745, 1.154, .915, .750, 1.212, .706

Nice time to go find a panic seller? But those 22 K's in 59 AB are pretty damned scary.

Is the point of putting Reynolds, Upton, and Young all into the lineup at the same time to help provide cooling to Chase Field?

$34 in Tout ... and I *love* this kid ... but agree it's risky to get into mid-30s with him ...

"risk" means could be better, could be worse ... in this case, he could be a lot better :-)

I updated my price to $28, which I hope will lose me Upton to someone else. But if I win him at $28 I'll be fine. The lad is just 23 years old this August, and while that might mean he's ready to step it up, I think there are good reasons to be cautious. There is no way to know if a youth is going to sustain, improve or fall back. The road to ruin comes from overbidding on young guys coming off a good season. And that's the situation that pertains here.

But he's talented, for sure.
