He'll go for more than $2-3 in keeper leagues with dumping. Whether he should or not is another story.

It's official. He's having TJ surgery. Put him on your list for $2-3 in keeper leagues and take him before the $1 replaceable pitchers and hope he's some semblance of his old self around the all-star break next year. But, he's getting old. (Wow that feels odd looking at his birth year- my birth year).

Of course, Eugene, as Mike has pointed out on the blog, there is a time and place for closers, and, for the past 5 years, Joe Nathan is one of those times and places. His interiors have been so good that he has been worth the investment.

Every player is an injury risk. Every pitcher is even a little more unpredictable than every hitter. You cannot consistently spend $9 on your staff and win, however, so we've got to take the best calculated risks we can.

I've been so busy I haven't bought the software yet this year. I plan to do some catch up on baseball this Sunday. Only two weeks until keepers are due in my league and 3+ one day until my draft. I've got another one the weekend prior, but that's just for money, not glory.

The tear occurred Sunday and had something to do with chips that were embedded in the ligament. Like head cheese, or something like that. Hey, I just realized that it would be smart to show some prices that drastically changed in this week's Software/Data releases. This was the biggie. The upgrades to Twins relievers is a bit of a mess. You can read more about them at blog.askrotoman.com.

Did this tear occur after Nathan had bone chips removed from his elbow last October? Is that what they're saying? He came down to spring training, started to get his arm in shape, and -- boom -- this happened?

The corollary of the never pay for saves rule is don't let your opponent underpay for them. I lost a league once because I let another owner slip away with two closers at prices (for 4x4) that were way too low. Never again.

Never pay for saves! Plus scrambling for closers makes the season so much more fun.

Might want to post Pat Neshek, who before he got hurt was better than Guerrier or Rauch. Not that better matters up against a Proven Closer like Rauch...

Just when I was thinking of spending money on a closer this year I am reminded that (a) they are pitchers and susceptible to major injuries at any moment and (b) they don't even throw a lot of innings when healthy.

Thank goodness this happened now and reminded me about the one closer I bought in the past 6 years- JJ Putz in 2008. Never again.
